Baptism

We welcome people of all ages who would like to be baptised and to become part of the worldwide church family.

If you are seeking baptism for a young child, you need to be aware of the commitment you will make to help your child, both by teaching and example, to be a regular member of the worshipping church. We want to encourage you in this commitment, and look forward to welcoming you at one of our services.

Durham Diocese provides more information on Baptism, http://www.durham.anglican.org/faith-and-life/ baptism.aspx.

Thanksgiving for the Gift of a Child

The birth or adoption of a child is an important event and cause for celebration. Many people are overcome by a sense of awe at the creation of new life and want to express their thanks to God but don’t necessarily wish to make the serious promises that are involved in baptism. The service of Thanksgiving for the Gift of Child provides an opportunity for parents and families to give thanks for the birth or adoption and to pray for family life.

The service is not the same as Baptism, which is the sacrament of receiving into membership of the Church, the Body of Christ. Read the earlier material on this page to find out more about baptism.
