Marriage

Marriage is a life-long commitment between a man and a woman and we are pleased you are considering getting married at St Aidan’s. Your wedding day should be a wonderful occasion, and we would like to help you make the day memorable and enjoyable. If you would like to discuss the possibility of being married at St Aidan’s please contact the Vicar (see our contacts page).

We have an open policy on marriage whereby we will consider marrying those who have been married previously and their former spouse is still alive. If this is the case then we will want to talk with you about the past, your hopes for the future and your understanding of marriage.

Durham Diocese provides more information on marriage, http://www.durham.anglican.org/faith-and-life/weddings.aspx

Prayer and Dedication after a Civil Marriage

A couple who are already married may come to a decision that they would like to dedicate their life together to God. Though this is not a marriage service, it enables a husband and wjife to affirm the vows they have already made, to commit themselves to each other before God in prayer, and to seek his blessing upon their shared life.

A service of dedication may be used immediatly after a civil marriage has taken place or sometime after the marriage.
